An amusing ritual between a grandfather and his grandchild and her children
My daughter was only five years old when her Me-Ma and Pop died.

Unlike her older brothers she doesn’t have very many memories about who they were.

One thing she remembers vividly, however, is the small, glass bowl of Hershey Miniatures that sat on a table by the front door.

Me-Ma and Pop put them there so that a person could grab one or two as they entered and exited the house.

However, anytime one of the kids would reach into the bowl my grandfather would say gruffly, “The dark chocolate is mine.”

His voice may have been gruff but the smile on his face was pure delight.

My daughter still laughs at this routine that went on with every visit to her Me-Ma and Pop’s house.
