Just a simple engagement picnic
His emerald eyes twinkled with the thought that soon he would have the love of his life in his arms. As soon as the clock struck noon, she would come meet him under the big oak tree by the church, where they first met. He had the picnic all set up complete with champagne and even a bunch of sunflowers, her favorite. He had packed turkey and avocado sandwiches and chips, carrots and even some peach cobbler for dessert. The ring was in his pocket. He was so nervous. Would she say yes? The clock started to chime as he saw her walking toward him. Her pink dress swaying back and forth with every step she took. As she sat down he looked at the little scar above her lip and tried to fight urge to kiss it.

"What is in the basket?" She asked as she sat down on the gingham blanket he had laid out for them. She opened the lid and started to take out the sandwiches as he laid out the plates

"Just something I threw together really quick," he replied. Although he knew that this was her favorite lunchtime meal. He popped the cork on the champagne toward the tree, being careful not to spill any on himself.
"What is the special occasion?"

"You, my love." He poured two glasses and handed one to her. "I have loved you from the first moment I laid eyes on you. When I first saw you, my heart almost fell out of my chest and I knew that I would love you for the rest of my life." He put down his glass and reached out for her hand. "Margaret, will you marry me?" He asked as he produced the ring out of his pocket.

She looked down at the simple square diamond surrounded by little tiny diamonds on each side. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. She suddenly felt like she couldn't breathe. It was the most perfect moment of her life. The man of her dreams was sitting in front of her asking for her hand in marriage. Life seemed to slow down in that moment. She saw herself in a big house, surrounded by children and happier than she could have ever imagined.

"Yes!" She almost screamed her reply. She was so excited that John had finally asked her to be his one and only woman. "Of course I will marry you!" She jumped on top of him and gave him a big hug, to which they both fell over giggling. He kissed that scar that he had been staring at since she sat down.

"You have made me the happiest man alive, did you know that?"

"Well, you have made me the most ecstatic woman in all of existence."

"You always do have to have the last and biggest word, don't you?"

"Welcome to the rest of your life."
