Free verse poem
My voice is gone
no words form
I don't try to fly

Everyday I would sing
to pour it out
what overflowed

Now I am small
Now I am safe

But now I am silent

I eat my own soul as bread
and withhold my tears of wine
my voice is gone
where it can't shiver down walls
where it whispers back
like echoes in a cave
maybe just water
dripping down the stone

Now I am simple
Now I am still

Like a hare
beneath a shadow hawk

My voice fell in on itself
and formed a dam
so I'll crawl along it quietly
and wait to find
how much pressure
a broken voice can hold

From wherever it is
that my voice has gone
