Chapter I
Tomas McKinney
I was 6 years old. Thought I was on top of the world. Had two upstanding, hardworking parents and a stable home. I went to school and felt superior to all the other children because my family was well off and paid cash for my tuition. I was on top of the world, that was until the day I decided to take my dad's car out for a drive. I could remember it like it was yesterday my father, who was a highly recognized attorney in Greensboro, North Carolina, had forgotten something in the house while leaving for work. He made the mistake of leaving his keys in his Cadillac Coupe Deville so I raced out of my home and hopped inside. Remembering my father would always press this button on the driver's side door to make it so I couldn't open the door, I pressed it making it so my father couldn't get in to remove me out. Since the car was still running I pulled the lever to make it go. Not knowing I put it in reverse I pressed the pedals like I had once saw my father do and went barreling out of the drive-way into the street. I was too small to see that I was going to make the biggest mistake of my life. All of a sudden I hear a loud bang noise. It all happen so fast and my father smashed the window out on the passenger side door and quickly pulled me out. He buried me into his jacket and ran me into the house yelling for my mother to come and get me. As I followed my mother into the house I turned to see why my father was in a panic and saw the neighbors son Oliver under the back tire of my father's car. My mother ran to the phone frantically dialing number and I ran into my room to hide under my bed. I could hear my mother talking but couldn't completely make out what she was saying. Don't know if it was because she was talking softly or I was just drowning it out from the shock of seeing a boy dead. After what seemed to be forever (which to children time usually does) I heard the sirens nearing. I quietly slipped out from under my bed and peeked out the window. My mother and father where out there talking to men in blue uniforms and at the edge of the neighbor's lawn was Oliver's mother and father. Oliver's father was yelling at my father and another man in uniform was holding his mother back from running to his side. That day I wish I could have disappeared forever. My mother then gave my father a kiss and a hug. I was so confused. I watched her closely trying to figure out what was going on as she started to the front door of the house. I then looked back at my father and the men in uniform had put him in these bracelets. I had saw them before when head bring me to work but I Didn't know why they were doing that. My father had always told me they were for the bad guys. My father a bad guy. Then I heard myself whisper, I am the bad guy. My mother had already came into the house by now, I had heard the door shut but my confusion made it sound so far away. There was a bang, my mother had closed herself in her room. I went to the door and put my ear to it. I could hear her crying and all I could ask myself is what have I done.
A few hours had passed and I had fallen asleep. I got woken up by the creaking noise of my parent's bedroom door opening. I then jumped up and slowly walked to my door way and peeked around the corner. Who was that woman who just passed my door? That couldn't have been my mother, she was always so kept up with her beautiful auburn hair and everything just perfect. I followed her into the kitchen where she sluggishly went around the room collecting ingredients to cook dinner. She turned to me; eyes blood shot, face pale white looking like she hadn't slept in weeks. She put the pan on the stove top then turned to me again in a whisper like tone, Junior, please go get washed up for dinner. I started to talk but she had cut me off raising her voice this time, just do it, don't back talk me. I quickly put my head down and walked back down the hallway to the bathroom which was located across the hall from my room. I pulled my bench over , covered my hands in soup and turned the water on. At that moment I looked up and saw myself in the mirror and started to softly weep. I was the one those men in uniform should have put in the car, I was the bad guy. All I kept thinking was I should have never got into that car. I then splashed water on my face to hide the reminisce of tears on my face and turned the water off. After that I got down off my bench, pushed it under the sink and headed out of the bathroom. I decided to go back to my room considering my mother Didn't want to talk and the food wasn't finished. Sitting in silence was worse. I kept having the flashback of my father running at the car telling me to stop, then the loud boom, and Oliver under the car. I took someone's life and my father is gone because of it. Will he ever speak to me again? Will my mother ever be the same? I am the bad guy, my mother deserves my father not me.

Chapter III
Olivia Burns
It was an ordinary morning that became my worst nightmare. My father's wife woke me up and made Oliver and I breakfast. We had scrambled eggs, French toast, and orange juice. I sat down at the table stirring my food around with my slice of French toast. Oliver came running down and jumped into his seat. Stop being dumb, I said to him while he chewed up his food and showed it to me .What do you know about dumb?, He asked me with a mouthful of food. It was gross since some of the pieces landed on me and my plate. Wiping of a piece of egg off my cheek I shot back, That he has brown hair and a goofy face. He then grabbed his orange juice and drank the whole glass down and ran off. He got to the house door and yelled, Smell you later Olivia I yelled back, I hate you!. I hate you, that was the last thing I said to my brother before it happened. There was a loud bang outside and a lot of yelling. I went to the door way of the house and watched from the screened door. My brother was under the back tire of the car and the neighbor's boy got pulled out of the car. I hate you, does he really believe that? At that moment my father and his wife pushed me aside and went running out the house. I was so confused how come Oliver isn't moving? He is a super hero, or at least he's my hero. I had always wanted to be like him and would follow him around the house. He wasn't always fond of me and blamed me for our mother's death. My mother had died giving birth to me my father said so he remarried. Now I was in the predicament that I am the reason someone died. My brother, I should have not fought with him. I could then see my father yelling at the boy's father and my father's wife being stopped by the men in blue uniform from trying to get to Oliver. Get up Oliver, I gritted through my teeth, stop joking around. Oliver never got up. I looked across the street and saw the boy watching out from his window. He looked very scared and sad. I looked back over and his father was being put in a car. After the car pulled away and an ambulance came. I watched them put my brother in a black bag and into the back of the vehicle. My father hopped in his car and raced out of the drive way and Melissa, my father's wife, came back to the house sobbing. What is she sobbing for he isn't her kid. It's not her fault he died. This moment made me resent her more. She came to me in the door way and said something. I don't know what she said because I was frozen in time not knowing what to do or say.
