Part of me believes this night was a hoax...
There is a lot of significance to this story. As you may have guessed, Bob Ewell is involved.
I was eight years old, and I was dressed as a ham for the school pageant
Jem and I were walkin' home from the school after the fair was over, and it was really dark out. I realized I forgot my shoes, but before I could run back to school to get them, the lights turned off, and it was even darker than it was before. Jem heard a noise, right before we reached the big oak tree that signified that we were almost home. He stopped in his tracks, but I didn't hear anything.
Finally, I heard it. I didn't think anythin' was wrong; I thought it was no one but Cecil Jacobs. I cried out, "Cecil Jacobs is a big wet hen!" but there was no answer. Cecil Jacobs woulda revealed himself by now.
Suddenly, someone jumps out and lands on Jem. He cried out. I couldn't see who it was; my peep hole was too small in my ham costume, and it was too dark. They were jumbled up and I couldn't tell which one was Jem.
It all happened so fast. I still have trouble comprehending what I saw that night.
Jem was knocked out, and suddenly, I was alone with whoever was attackin' us; someone took Jem home. I saw him carryin' him home.
I ran home, my costume in shreds, and I found that Jem returned safely. He was in his bed, but I thought he was dead. Atticus and even the doctor insisted he was just asleep.
Later that night, from Sheriff Heck Tate, we learned that Bob Ewell was dead. I was shocked, yet somehow relieved. I knew he was the one who attacked, and if he hadn't died, we woulda been dead instead.

This is where Boo Radley comes in again.
It turned out that he was the one who took Jem home, and I only realized not too long ago that Boo was the one who killed Bob Ewell. He was the one who saved us. Boo gained my respect that night, and I gained a friend. He wasn't so bad afterall.
