I wrote this poem for my grandma Joyce right after she passes away.
It’s been ten years since the last time I saw your face,
When I showed up at your funeral,
Some thought I was a disgrace.
I didn’t care though; I was only there for you,
I wanted to remember the good times, the memories, the special things we used to do.
I hesitated to come at first,
but, I knew you would want me there,
I didn’t listen to what people said,
I didn’t even care.
I thought you had forgotten about me,
I thought the past had been so long ago,
I never stopped loving you,
I just want you to know.
It’s a little late to finally be telling you this,
It’s a little late to cry,
But I miss you so much,
The pain I try to hide,
I miss the Foxie red stories,
I miss the dress up dates,
I miss the nights you used to rescue me,
I miss the staying up late.
I miss wearing your wigs around,
I miss hearing your voice,
I miss the fun times we had,
I miss calling my Grandma Joyce.
I’m gonna talk to you every day,
I’m gonna picture that you’re here,
I’m gonna get rid of my worries, my troubles, and all my fears.
I’m gonna hold my head up high,
And I’m not gonna let another ten years pass me by.
~In loving memory of Joyce Walton, A.K.A grandma Joyce, A.K.A Foxie Red.~
