A portrait of mental and physical abuse.

Hiding behind high stony walls,

Amidst the darkness and the gloom.

Cowering in a distant corner,

Within the cold blackness of the room.

The walls that surround to protect,

Instead become a prison.

Enslaved by fear and dread,

From terrors that show no rhyme or reason.

Shivering, afraid, and alone,

In a place so foreboding and unkind.

Horrors seen that should never befall,

Such a tender fragile young mind.

Left amongst the chaos,

Words are rarely spoken.

An innocent, caring, little heart,

Is now battered, bruised, and broken.

Deepening wounds and anger,

Leaving scars that will never fully heal.

Strong memories and flooding emotions carry such weight,

Making the burdens harder to conceal.

Trembling and confused,

Looking for a spot of light to glean.

Imprisoned within the darkness,

A tortured soul unseen.
