The beginning, presents and starts to characterize a main character
The gleaming figure stood, silhouetted against the blazing yellow sun, facial features indecipherable. Long black hair cascaded down the human's back, her armour a shining ebony contrasted against the bright yellow orb of light to her side. She was still, her shadow cast far to her right. Even with all her armour, her body was noticeably beautiful. Her figure was defined despite the bulky plate mail.
Suddenly the young woman seemed alive as her hands rose to her mouth and her body bent as sickly coughs rose from her throat. She sniffed and coughed again, hands still to her mouth, then gave a sigh as she let them drop.
A person on a horse rode up.
"Madam, you're needed in Yara's tent. And you've been asked to not keep running away. Here's my horse."
    The man started to dismount.
She stopped him, throwing her arm out to pin his leg to the horse's side, quickly raising her hand to stroke the mare's neck as she shied away slightly.
"First of all, stop calling me madam. I don't deserve it, and I don't like it. Second, no. I'll walk as I always do."
    The man tried to interrupt.
"Be quiet, Grom. Thirdly, I'll do whatever I want. I am a valuable member of the fighting force, with special skills that make me nearly indispensable. Especially when we're not winning. So they can't do anything to me."
    "You will come?"
"Yes, I only need a break now and then. But the next time you are sent with a message do not sell the fancy bullshit and offer me your transportation. I know you need to give me the message." At this she rolled her eyes and continued, "And if you have the time, tell all the others, too, especially Maan and Kyra. They're the worst. Maybe you'll have more influence on them, who knows. I'll head down in a minute, I promise."
