I wrote this in the 5th grade, under the inspiration of animated planets.
Child moon and woman sun
Part until the day is done
And then they sit upon the air
Chanting a silent bedtime prayer
But later, in the dark of night,
Child moon shone very bright.
Everyone except for mars
Woke up to watch child moon and the stars.
Child moon awoke to a crowd of friends
Huddled around his twilight bed
As he glowed till the night had past
And woman sun rushed in, aghast,
She said, laughing, with a sigh-
“Everyone’s up, why aren’t I?”
The other planets went back to bed
As woman sun politely said,
“Child moon, it isn’t right
To light up the day and not the night.”
But child moon didn’t make a peep,
For he had drifted off to sleep.
Woman sun didn’t waste any time
For she hurried off to shine her shine
But as she continued, normal as it seemed,
Child moon, for the first time, dreamed.
