Chapter 1 of my werewolf story
Chapter 1

Crashing out through the exit door in to the ally I got a sudden down poor of rain land on me from the black clouds the circled in the sky. Cliché I know however it is true. But no time for that now, I had a job to do. I paused outside the entrance to another back ally and listened. The advantage to being a werewolf, even in human form we have super advanced hearing, unnatural speed and stronger than any body builder.
I listen as the birds circled somewhere, people drunkenly laughing and talking out on the street and music beating out from the club I had just left. Then I heard it the footsteps splashing through a puddle as they ran down the ally to the… right.
I pulled the dagger out of my boot. Better do that safely now than have to rush for it later. And then I head off down the ally.

The screams woke me up. Alert and looking for the location of the outburst, only to realise that the noise was from my dream. I looked at the alarm clock on the stand by my bed… Oh shit. I have a meeting with my agent in an hour to discus last night’s kill and – I looked in the mirror – I look like shite.
Reluctantly I climbed out of bed and headed for the shower. I did shower last night – never leave some one else’s blood on your skin for long, it looks suspicious – but still otherwise I would not have the energy, even as a werewolf to get through the day.
With one hand holding the hairdryer I used the other to search through my bags for something professional. Not suit and tie professional but the innocent, however if I wanted to I could still kill you kind of professional.
10 minutes later I was standing in front of the mirror in black jeans, knee high boots a purple and black corset style top…. It would have to do. I brushed back my shoulder length red hair out of my face. Put my dagger in my boot. Better to be safe than sorry. And headed out of my hotel apartment to meet my “handler”.

I walked into the café. Not the sort of place you would expect to hold a top secret Government meeting. Talking to the werewolf about the people you hired her to kill. Still I don’t think any one has ever accused the Government of having brains. I entered and walked over to the corner to sit with a man reading a newspaper, hidden from the normal every day customers. As I walked over he stood up to greet me. Putting his hand out to shake mine, I walked past him and sat down. For a moment he looked taken aback but hid it will. He sat down opposite me and looked me straight in the eye, which was good of him, and I suppose easier as I stood only slightly shorter than him at 5ft8.

“Avalon, so nice to see you again. I have missed you”
“Cut it Jack you saw me only two days ago.”
He kicked me under the table and I glared at him, but still I caught the message. ‘Play along.’
I sat there with my oh so innocent smile plastered across my face and said “Well?”

“Well what?” he replied…
Like I said… no brains.
“Everything is fine. Clean. Easy. Disposed of. Where’s my money?”
For a moment Jack just glared at me. I was beginning to suspect that it was his natural face when all of a sudden he sighed and pushed an envelope across the table towards me.
“Don’t open it here. That amount of money it would look suspicious, especially with your … appearance”

Now it was my turn to return his glare. Did he just call me a whore? Bastard.

“Now, now it would not do to insult. Not unless you want one less worker and” I said raising my voice and leaning closer “finding one with my sort of skill who knows exactly what you office boy’s like”
There see how he likes it. I had to suppress a grin as people turned around to stare at him with that look of displeasing on their face. I didn’t care. I live in England. And if all goes well I should be travelling home again tonight. I never liked these American cities to dangerous. To easy to get attacked and have no one do anything about it.

“Is that all?” I asked him
“For now”
“Fine. I shall be traveling back to England on the first flight I can get.”
I don’t know why he needed to follow me all the way over to America in the first place. Maybe they think that I need a watcher. Make sure that I don’t run off. I don’t know why they would think that I would. They took me out of my hell and even if it was just so that they could have a werewolf as a hired killer. Still I guess I owe them something.
