A poem about late-night emotions.
Your dawn is my midnight
A swirl of words leaves your lips
Dangles between us
My heart slips
Shatters on the floor
One million shuddering drips
Soul spent on stone.

It’s dark where you left me
Spilled, empty, dry
Without even a pint of poetry
To drench away my cries
No sweet taste of honeyed prose
To whisk away your passionate sighs
Of bygone days of another world.

I am a shadow to the noon
Of your invasion of my soul
Helpless against your pressure
On my mind, my body, my whole
Or maybe I just don’t want to lose
My heart that you so control
Till I lust to go insane from the grief.

So I feel the comforting curves
Of your body in my arms at night
And cry myself to sleep against your shoulder
Until I wake to morning’s light
And see in my arms but a pillow
Tear-streaked
And smelling softly of your smile.
