Poem about Evil
Evil

It is loose in the world
Upon on our souls it is darkly painted
For, no matter how we strive for good
Even the best of us remains tainted

So difficult to pinpoint
There are those who claim it does not exist
Denial is most comforting
But, this I feel is even more dangerous

It strikes mercilessly
Leaving devastation in its wake
Malevolence, incredible excess of hate
Causes suffering, perhaps too much to take

So we say we are at war with evil
But this is the worst folly of today
Our declaration causes evil to rejoice
For war itself is its forte’

An evil act is perpetrated
We watch the towers fall
We recoil in unspeakable horror
Then show the evil found in all
