A poem I wrote after experiencing welcoming, healing arms after much pain.

I Died, That's the Tale
By Kristal Feltman

My heart was broken, shattered, lost
And then as though by force of nature
You wanted to help me, no matter the cost
A blessed rainstorm in the desert.

All my life I've supposed
The fairytale life wasn't for me
I thought my heart was only purposed
To bear a curse I did not need.

Another man had broken my heart
He shattered and ripped it to pieces
I had guessed, from the start
The pain I'd find from his teases.

In my heart, deep inside
I had hoped, desperately
That somehow, maybe, if I tried
That he could be kept from hurting me.

But he did
And I fell
I died
That's the tale.

And as I lay there in My Torture
Screaming from the pain he caused
You cared enough to remove My Torture
You cared enough to give me pause.

It's like a story
From a movie.
Like a song
That keeps you strong.

What made you want to save me
From all the hurt he caused me?
What made you want to help me?
What made you care about me?

All my life, I've supposed
The fairytale life wasn't for me
I thought my heart was only purposed
To bear a curse I did not need.

I find it truly amazing
That fate works the way it does.
I find it truly amazing
That in the end, this is how it goes.
