Went on a field trip to the Smoky Mountain National Park and wrote one of my best.
Have you seen a millipede tumble?
Did you stop and watch it fall?
Have you walked quietly along,
And heard the angels’ gentle call?

Did you see the logs incognito,
The “bear,” the “vulture,” and the “deer?”
Did you see nature’s intertwining ceiling,
With vines and branches growing everywhere?

Did mountains ripple like a river for you,
Sweet sunshine dapple the trees?
Did unfurling flowers reveal their presence to you,
Or the crickets say their gentle, “three?”

Have you ever felt the rainbow,
Deep inside of you?
It burst out on your favorite tree,
Just when you’re feeling blue.

If I remember something,
From this long week of five,
It’s that there’s a big difference between
Quiet, and the quiet, that’s alive.
