A poem about a girl I used to know.

She sits in the rain
Aching to dry but needing this feeling
Hoping to wash all this angst from her mind
Hoping to find some release from the grind
She's ready to go
Fixing to burst and spoiling to blow
And she can't stop the tears
And the raindrops don't hide all the pain
They don't wash her tears down the drain
Just another kid in a mess
Another broken heart in a dress
If I could just cross this distance between us
Just take her pain in my stride
Open the floodgates and wait for the tide
Find a place in the light she can hide
While she's wringing her hands and her mind
Leaving composure behind
If I could just find a way to connect
A waterproof match
Light the blue paper and take a step back
Just let the fireworks blow
Show her that she's not alone

She blows in the wind
Aching for warmth but needing direction
Hoping to find somewhere softer to fall
Hoping to just float away from it all
She's ready to scream
Hugging her knees and letting off steam
And she can't stop the shakes
The wind blowing can't take her pain
Take her pain and just blow it away
Just another girl in a mess
Another broken heart in a dress
If I could just close the distance between us
Help her get back her strength and her mind
Help her leave all this heartache behind
Just hold her close through the storm
Just let the fireworks blow
And show her that she's not alone
