They meet again.
What was that noise? It was so loud! It sounded like the beating of drums. It seemed to be coming closer and louder. Could that really be her heart beating so loud? Surely, anyone who passed by could hear it. Her heart was racing as she sit there waiting for him. She was a bundle of nerves sitting there. Each time the door opened her heart jumped into her throat thinking that it might be him.
As she sat there, a thousand memories raced through her mind. Their life had been so carefree back then. Each day had been a new adventure. He had been her prince always treating her like a queen. They were together as often as possible. She loved riding around in his shiny blue sports car. They would ride around without a care in the world. Sometimes, they would sit and talk for hours. Often their talk was about their future and the family that they would have. But, she made some mistakes. She made some bad choices. And she let him slip away.
What had made her contact him after so many years? Was it fate? Was it meant to be? She had found his name on an alumni list as she had mindlessly been surfing the web one day. His name had seemed to jump right off the page at her. Without thinking, she clicked on his name. She found herself staring at his phone number. Should she call him? Did she dare? Before she had time to think, she dialed his number. With each ring, her heart beat faster. What would he do when he heard her voice? What would he say? What would she say? Had he filed all his memories of her away in his past? Suddenly, she heard him answer the phone. For just a minute, she thought of hanging up. But as she heard him say hello again, she spoke and then held her breath not knowing what his reaction would be. What was that? Was that excitement she heard in his voice? He was glad she had called. He had often thought about her. All the years faded away as they talked. Then, they had made plans to meet today.

It had been thirty years since last they met. Through the years, she had often thought of him. She had wondered where he was and if he was happy. On occasion, she had even allowed herself to think what if ….. It has been thirty long years with failed marriages and the births of children. She wondered what would happen when they saw each other after all this time. Would the years have erased the spark or would their memories outshine the years?
Once again, she heard someone coming in the door. As she looked up, there he stood. His steps quickened when he saw her. The closer he came,
the louder her heart beat. Was this a dream? Was this real? After thirty years, could he still make her feel this way? Suddenly, he was standing right in front of her. For just a moment, their eyes met. Then she was in his arms. As their lips met, she knew the years were erased and this time she would stay.
