Little Miss Beauty Pageants are becoming more popular, causing as much controversy

The popularity of child beauty pageants seems to be rising every year causing as much controversy.
There are many different views and concerns about the high end Glitz and Glamor Pageants.
Who can forget the photographs of tragic Jonbenet Ramsey in her glamor wear and make up?
Many think children are pushed into this to fulfill some need for the parent(s)
Children as young as two can compete in the full makeup, teased hair, false eyelashes the formal gowns, even flippers, (false teeth) and spray tans.
The preparation is no different from young adult preparing for a beauty contest.
All little girls love to play dress up, play princesses and grown ups.
However, this is deemed to be taking it to the extreme.

Dr. Robert Weiner (2007) a child Psychologist, states that the children in beauty pageants have been linked to three of the most common mental-health problems of girls and women: eating disorders, low self-esteem and depression.
Although the pageant organizers say it teaches the children self-esteem, sportsmanship, etiquette and grace.
It can lead to scholarships in the older age groups.
The prize money and other prizes can be huge, the most being fifty thousand dollars in bonds being paid to the winners. It's a big business.
Should this type of pageant have a minimum age, where the child can be involved in the decision making?
It has been suggested that the age limit should be set at eight years of age.
