Inspiration through Imitation
There's nothing wrong with modeling your writing from other writers. It's a great exercise and may help you discover your own voice.
Imitation is not plagerism. To steal someone else's exact words or ideas is when you could find yourself accused of plagerism. Read the following link for more detail: http://www.plagiarism.org/plag_article_what_is_plagiarism.html
Piggyback songs use a familiar melody with different words. If the tune was published in 1922 or earlier in the US, it is Public Domain, meaning it legally has no owner. For more information on Public Domain and also a list of Public Domain Music, go to: http://www.pdinfo.com/list.php
Athletes replicate movements modeled by those they admire. It's great practice, and with practice comes improvement. Improvement means bettering the original.
Imitation teaches, whether you are an author, songwriter, or athlete. Inspiration thrives from imitation. And once you feel the movement of words, music, or muscle, it all becomes open to experimentation, which is where you'll find your voice, your rhythm, and your moves.

Excerpt: I sat, wings spread, on this perfect resting place behind the waterfall. This is my favorite spot in all of Heaven. The rock platform stays dry, and the view from here is amazing. Beautiful green trees tower over my head, the sun shining through them in all its glory. The waterfall itself is majestic. It's hard to look away. As the water splashes down it sings me a glorious lullaby, while the birds chirp along in perfect harmony. Maybe this only applies to me, I'm not sure. I find music in everything, being the Angel of Music.

Hi Cubby, I have to play devil's advocate and say we do need to be aware of overexposure in our promo efforts. I've seen authors who are everywhere constantly (instead of in moderation or for short bursts to promo a new book) and I get so sick of seeing it, I don't even look anymore to see what they are promoting. It's like watching the same commercial five times during one half hour show. Enough already! We need to be careful to respect our readers. They have other things to think about than our books.
