You had a foreboding feeling that leaving the Houndoom alone with the Torchic will end in disaster, so you pick up the small bird into your arms. You see the Houndoom growled at you, but you responded by being calm and raising his paw up. “We’re almost done. Just wait.” The canine growled softly, but doesn’t lunge at you as you got on the boat and row back.
When you arrive on the land with the seeds, you see the Torchic was getting excited at the sight of the bag of seeds. You quickly held the Torchic down by the head, shaking your head no. It chirps sadly, even giving you a pleading look, but you don’t budge as you take the bag in your arms and motions the bird to stay here. ‘So glad she didn’t make it a Pachirisu. I remember many times Kate would use that on me.’ You thought as you place the bag onto the boat and rowed back to the other side where the Houndoom is. When you hit land, you place the bag on land. The horned hound stares at the bag for a moment before turning its head away with disinterest. Seeing this, you head back onto the boat to finish this task by bringing the Torchic to the other side.
When the Torchic stepped on land, it started to glow bright, alongside the Houndoom and the bag. You cover your eyes from the brightness before you move your paw away to find yourself back in the cave with Felicity sitting in front of you as usual, sporting a smile on her face like before.
“While making haste isn’t always a bad thing, one shouldn’t be in such a rush, otherwise they may make a crucial mistake.” Felicity spoke before adding, "Also knowing the situation at hand before making a decision is important."
"From your words, it sounds like he passed the second trial?" Neku asked and the Ninetales nodded her head. When you turned to Neku when he asked that, you caught everyone smiling
"That he did, now I will honor our agreement. Now can everyone come close." Rachael and the others got up and headed towards you, your sister standing at your side. "To be honest, once you understand the meaning behind it, it’s quite easy to do. As I stated, Mega-Evolution is possible for certain Pokémon." she handed you the mega stone as she handed the key stone to Kate. "When you first initiated it, each of you had a strong resolve to solve a particular task at hand."
"Task? We were being attacked by an infected Bayleef and me and Rachael were struggling to survive." You explained and Kate added to that.
"I saw the scene and I was holding the stone, thinking and praying that somehow they get through safely." she stated while you looked at her.
"Wait, so it worked because-"
"You both wanted the same goal: to survive the encounter with everyone. Seeing as you both had a strong bond and resonated with a common goal, the stones radiated and unlocked your hidden strength within you. That helped you unlocked that power, if only for that moment. In order to those to achieve Mega-Evolution, they not only need to have a strong bond, but focus their hearts and mind on a common goal they share."
"So basically, if they have the same thoughts on something and focus on that, Rai will get stronger?" The Pachirisu guessed.
"Correct. Now, show me if you're able to pick up what I said." Felicity said, sipping her drink. Kate looked around, seeing all of your companions and Felicity's grandaughter and shrinks down, getting worried that she may mess up and fail at this. You can sense Kate’s worry as you went and rubbed her head.
“If you have a hard time, she’ll help us out and figure out what’s the problem.” You said to her as she takes a look at the Ninetales who nods her head in assurance. Seeing this, Kate takes her key stone and closed her eyes. Focusing on getting the form that you had when you faced that infected Bayleef.
You hold the Mega Stone in your paw as you thought about what happened with the Bayleef, remembering the power you had when you took that form and using that power to protect those he wanted as you focused on obtaining that form once more. As you thought on it, you felt the stone started to glow warm as you looked at it before you felt your vison turning white.
The light spread into a shell-like orb containing you wishing before it breaks open to reveal you, only you look different. You successfully Mega-Evolved! Rachael and Neku were staring at you in awe as it’s still amazed them that you’re capable of such a feat. Felix and Vargus are even more surprised at what they just witnessed, considering this is their first experience with you mega-evolving.
“All this listening, I didn’t realized till now that it was Rai who they were talking about. A Pokémon I never thought could actually do something like that.” The Grovyle spoke, entranced by the scene.
“Wow, this is so cool! Mega-Evolution, I never imagined I would actually see it in action!” Vargus spoke, excitement in his eyes and voice made very apparent.
You even noticed that Nina was amazed at the sight too, though she puts her hood back on in order to keep the others from noticing her gaze. You felt many gaze at your form and you couldn't help but feel embarassed at the looks. "I-It caught me off guard as well."
"As expected from someone who didn't know about their mega-form." Felicity stated, "Now can you try gathering your electricity?"
You look at her for a moment before doing so, generating electricity through your body. The amount of power coursing through you felt amazing, like you can fight for days like this. Either your expression or the look in your eyes must’ve told her what you were thinking, cause Felicity smiled and said, “All that power would make anyone feel that way.” She said while staring at you curiously. “I sense something else within…” she looks among your group before setting her head towards the Zoroark. “Neku, could you use a dark-type attack on Rai?”
His eyebrows went up as well as yours as he steps forward, “What is it you intend to prove?”
“I sense something else within the Raichu’s mega form, I just need to know for sure.”
You give a mildly annoyed look as you’re not up for being someone’s test subject, but considering all she did for you, you figured it wouldn’t hurt… figuratively. “Go right ahead.”
“Seriously? You’re just gonna allow her little experiment?” Felix asked, skeptical about her request. “I’m not a lightweight. My dad was the captain of the guards at my hometown, and he’s quite strict with training.” You stated confidently.
“Heh, then it’s a real shame that Sandslash was what we encountered.” Felix stated with a smug grin. “Then maybe I wouldn’t have needed to save you.” He added which took your smile off of your face.
“Oh you think you’re so tough?! So what’s your excuse for your battle with the Aggron?”
This time you managed to wipe the smirk of of the Grovyle's face as he looked away in embarrassment. "W-Well he was bigger than me..." he sheepishly.
"But he also stated that you were faster and had the element of surprise over him." Vargus added making the Grovyle blush in more embarassment.
"S-Shut it!" Felix stated as he crossed his arms and looked away as Vargus was snickering from his embarrassment as Felicity coughed to get their attention.
"Now, Neku. If you please?" The ninetales asked. Neku was still unsure about this, but considering everything that happened up to now, he doesn't see any malicious intent in partaking in her little test. He faces you and you can sense his dark aura radiating from his body before it traverse towards his arms and a black and purple beam was fired from him towards you. You crossed your arms in front of you as you took the attack. You wince from the slight pain as the force pushes you back a bit, but you held your ground just as the attack dissipates.
"Rai, are you alright?" Rachael asked, staring at you.
"I'm alright." You responded as you moved your arms away from your face. You moved them as they felt a little sore, but that's about it. "Honestly... it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would be."
"Interesting. Rai, use an attack that isn't electric."
"Huh?" You asked confused and she give you a look that says, 'Humor me.'
You sigh from the look as you charged towards the Zoroark, preparing to use your Iron Tail attack, but then you suddenly had a thought of a move that you never used before. You leaped into the air with your tails raising up. Instead of them hardening, they glow purple and crimson as they lunged at Neku who was startled at the attack, barely raising his arms to his chest as they collide into him, pushing him back.
You stare at your tails as they kept that glow before they revert back to normal. "Whoa... What just happened?"
"You just used night slash..." Neku answered, rubbing his arms where your tails struck. "A dark-type move..."
"What?! That's impossible! Raichu's can't learn that move..." You stated in shock and disbelief.
"A pure electric type Raichu? No, but it is possible for a dark/electric type." Felicity responds which made you turn your head to her with a look that matched all of your companions except for Neku and felix, though he still looks rather surprised at the news.
"I-I'm a dark/electric hybrid?" You stated, looking over yourself. "I can't believe it."
"May I remind you that you just used a dark type move no normal Raichu can't use?" She asked as you shake your head no, which she gives you a smile at your form. "Still, this is very interesting to discover this." Just then, your body glowed as you reverted back to your normal form. Your body slumped down a bit as you let out a long exhale.
"I feel rather drained." Rai said, your body feeling slightly heavy.
"That's the drawback of Mega-Evolution. Typically one will feel rather tired once the revert. The longer they fight in their form, the more time it'll take for it to shake off."
You nod your head at that response. This can help you, but if used recklessly, you could put yourself in danger. 'Use this only if nessessary.' You thought to yourself.
