Re: Re: Re: "Phantom"!
Emmy Rossum looked really familiar to me, so I Googled her name to try to find if I'd seen her in anything else. I can't find that I've seen her before, but I did find that she was born September 12, 1986!! This woman is younger than we are! Ooh, boy. Big self-esteem stomper. I really hate finding out things like that! It makes me feel somewhat smaller than an ant. Bleah. Blarg.

Oh my goodness, we could go see it together! That would kick so much ass!! I hadn't thought of that. Wowee. (You know Elizabeth is really excited when words fail her and she resorts to "wowee.")

Thanks for the photo links! They look absolutely marvelous. I love the Minnie ones. She's not really how I pictured Carlotta, but my mind has shifted pretty comfortably. I agree -- it's pretty cool to see Minnie like that. Which of Minnie's movies have you seen? One of my total favorite movies is An Ideal Husband with Rupert Everett, Cate Blanchett, Jeremy Northam, Minnie Driver, Julianne Moore...and lots of other cool actors. Have you seen it? I originally watched it because I adore Oscar Wilde and I drool big puddles over Rupert (sorry, gross imagery), but I've kind of fallen in love with Minnie's character, Mabel. Actually, long before I saw the movie, I did one of Mabel's monologues from Oscar's play for Saturday morning drama class. Mabel is a really fantastic character, full of spunk and intelligence and wit, and Minnie adds a very cool dimension to her.

Let's see. I've also seen Beautiful and Uncoroked and Grosse Pointe Blank. I thought I'd seen more of hers, but maybe not. I was really disappointed when I heard that she played Mandy, the faery godmother, in Ella Enchanted. That was my favorite book when I was about 12 years old, and I was shocked and angered by what I saw of disgusting job they did with the film. I refuse to see the movie, and I was disappointed that Minnie was in it! Oh well...fans can't dictate their idols' actions, more's the pity!

I think Emmy looks very good for the part, although absolute nobody can replace Sarah Brightman in my mind! From the photos I've seen of Sarah in Christine costume, she had such an ethereal, otherworldly, kind of spazzed-out, torn, martyred look -- just perfect for the Gothic Christine character! To me, Emmy looks a little...modern. But that's just my take, and I do think she looks pretty good for the part.

The Phantom is a little…er, not my type, I guess. Shaggy hair and pouty lips? Hmm. He doesn’t look tortured enough from the photos, but maybe photos can’t capture that? I haven’t really seen enough Raoul photos to form an opinion. In general, the actors, costumes, expressions, everything look kind of modernized, a little spruced-up to appeal to 21st-century audiences, but pretty good anyway! (I guess I’m spoiled by the BBC; I don’t often approve of Hollywood productions!)

So, what do you think of the photos?! Do you think you’ll like the film? I expect to adore it -- I wantto adore it! Of course, I wish the BBC were doing it, but I guess that’s asking a bit much…. I’m just a movie snob!
