I assume it won't be the "2024" kind of late, though. It's obvious this branch has a lot of the things the typical reader has, including Will-as-Chelsea and a way to effectively remain as her permanently. (At least, until Dane comes back.)

That said, it's pretty interesting to see Will (and Caleb, don't forget about it) using the masks in a "positive" way. Of course, the signs of things getting absolutely frigged are there, but at least some moves were made to minimize the impact - Will played it smart by holding on to his urges and proceed with the plan, and choosing Fairfax (in Patterson's body, specifically with Patterson's mind) is a frighteningly smart move. (If dangerous, but that relies on Will keeping the new Patterson in check.)

However, it's also obvious that to keep things in check, they'll have to resort to the old methods, and what'll happen is effectively a change of guard. That's also why Will's move to support Meghan is smart, as while it can be corrupted into another power play, it *is* a random act of kindness on someone who's not as popular.

In short, it's a smart move but full of "the road to Hell" and whatnot. The only way this might work is if they somehow get to connect with Alyssa, and that means they need the East-West club's help. And I'd really like to see more positive (and smart) uses to masks, the kind that leads to a lot of lessons learned.

(And also: given that Fairfax just dropped up the ideas, why not have Caleb work a scrambled mask in the meanwhile? Then again, he might feel empowered to join the swapping once the Ludius spell is unlocked, and things are going pretty slow....)
