Re: Re: Okay...Time to shake up some brainwaves here!
I might have something to say on this:

For the stories I write with my best friend/writing partner, which are typically based in being huge literature nerds (rewrites of Shakespeare, stage plays involving Shakespeare in various ways, themes from Jane Austen, etc), we have a shared platform in Nerd Cactus. We have our blog and a Twitter, so far, but we're probably going to create a shared Facebook in the coming weeks. We have an Instagram, too, but haven't really started taking pictures yet. This venture is the one I'm focusing on for now.

For the stories I want to write on my own, I plan on building on any success I can from Nerd Cactus, but writing it under a different name. Not to compare myself to JK Rowling, but she built herself and her platform as JK Rowling, but also writes as Robert Galbraith, which of course was made easier because she was JK Rowling. It was easier to build that platform because she already had one; an agent, publisher, etc. So if you want to write in different genres, you'll need to pick the one that you want to market yourself as first and then probably write under different names.

Like, if you write fantasy and then you want to write a romance, you'll likely have to write under a different name. So you'll want to pick something to get yourself into the business and then see if you can't branch out from there. If you want to go into different genres or from poetry to fiction, you'll have to think in terms of different pen names and different brands. Even though writing is a creative venture, the buying and selling of it is purely business, so you have to pick your thing and stick with it.
