I guess the question is:

1) Why is the other character popping up?

2) Does he or she have a reason for being there?

3) Do you have a reason for killing him/her?

I wouldn't kill him/her just to kill him/her. I mean gratuitous killing is never good. If you can get them out of the scene and "kill" them that way... that would work.
