So what do you guys think about this Idea?

A new race called the "Gem Civilization", where the people are made of crystals, gems, and all sorts of other rock ores, like diamonds, sapphires, ruby's, etc? Just wanted to get some feedback on that idea, as that's what I'm using as a main focus, in a novel i'm writing.
