Writer's Fallout Shelter

I'm thinking of participating in National Novel Writing Month this November. I will be posting my deluge of nonsense here, but I cannot decide what kind of item to use. A book item is too limiting, especially since the initial draft with have little or no structure. A static item or a collection of static items would quickly become difficult to manage. An interactive would allow experimentation with alternative storylines, but completely lack coherency.

I dunno... What do ya'll think? What item would you use?
