I believe there is true and there is True.

The first true, with the lower case t, means it is factually accurate, that the details represented actually occurred as they are reported or the information presented is valid. This is very important if you're writing non-fiction, but rarely happens, and to a certain extent should be avoided if you're writing fiction.

True, with the upper case T, goes beyond factual accuracy. It is something that speaks to the human condition and has a universal quality. In my opinion, all fiction should strive to be True, even if the story is completely made up.
