Spring 2006 SLAM! - Congrats to the winners - see you all next time! |
My City Through the tunnel's exit, I see your profile, Squarely drawn against the sky. PPG crowns your head and the point's fountain Marks the merging of three rivers at your feet. Sidewalks shadowed by your structures invite me to explore The changing facade of familiar haunts, While sculpture and architecture mingle with Chalk art and graffiti to reflect your soul; The passion and angst within you. Humanity and traffic course through these conduits. Like blood in your veins, They carry life to every corner of your frame. Your urban beat captures me, Connecting my pulse once again, To the rhythm of buses, trains, And the music on the street. Car horns and drivers' shouts punctuate the melody, While sirens echo along your concrete walls, To form the descant of your metropolitan song. The smell of the market, and The aroma of hot dogs from the vendor's cart, Carry me away. I remember: Coffee outside the cafe, Gyros from the Parthenon, Roasted peanuts down the street. Every breath holds another memory. I am refreshed to know I am home again.
