The second of my collections of poems written for "Express It In Eight."
As usual these days, I choose blog format because it offers more space for the work.

Empty

Out west the land goes on forever
in open plains, a vast savanna,
no hindrance there to sight or dreams
and freedom forms eternal themes.

Out there the spirit roams untied,
no hindrance to the view applied
and emptiness is full of meaning,
the soul replete with endless cleaning.

A curtain blows in the breeze to touch a table.

Nemesis

The curtains billow with the breeze from an open window
like sails set in the darkness of a moonless night
they caress the stiff form of the high table in attendance
sentry to the silent room lit by a beam from an errant streetlight.

Evidence of bedtime’s last cocoa ritual of long ago
a cup and saucer braves the flow of air and movement
a stalwart figure on the lonely height of spotlight frozen
suspended time now prepares the waiting fate for action.
