Waiting with the Lord

To serve the Lord on daily days
is honing faithfulness.
Some prayers for roads of greater ways
may not receive His "Yes."

For forty years through sand and heat
the Israelites thus moved.
Their food and rest He'd daily meet,
as needed, them reproved.

The human heart is bent on thrills,
and chills, excitement's best,
but climbing up the side of hills
is needful in wonder's quest.

Amusement means eschewing thought,
emotion's party place,
but students best are slowly taught
in waiting's quiet grace.

While slogging through some dusty field
seems useless and benign.
His final scorecard may thus yield
some treasures yet to find.

The snail may see the butterfly
imagining the days
of higher views in the lifted sky,
which make less his slow ways.

But snails don't fret the lack of speed,
created he by God.
The sum's not greater than each deed,
His "Well done" will applaud.

To serve the Lord on daily days
is all, that he requires.
Foundations are not on display
supporting some lone spire.
