On The First Full Day of Winter

It is Friday,
it is the day after winter solstice--
which occurred at 8:28 a.m. Pacific Time--
so today is the first full day of winter.


It is the firs full day of winter,
the days are getting longer
and the nights are becoming shorter,
but neither is getting any warmer.

On the first full day of winter
there is a chill in the air,
a dampness
that is seeping into my bones.

On the first full day of winter,
summer's triple digit temperatures
are distant memories
echoing
through the canyons of my mind.
