Thursday Contemplations on My Genetic Inheritance
Thursday, March 9, 2017

“I have all these great genes, but they're recessive. That's the problem here.”
Bill Watterson, The Complete Calvin and Hobbes

The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise prompt for Day 1092
To know and be known by people whose memories are long enough to tell you how much around the eyes you look like your grandmother gives you a deeper context then you can give herself. What are your feelings on this?

My Genetic Inheritance

I disagree with this statement because I can look in the mirror each morning and see my resemblance to my immediate ancestors. I can open my mouth and, at least once a week, hear my mother's words or voice coming out. I can look at my stubbornness or bullheadedness and see my resemblance to my father. There are parts of my positive attitude(when I'm not depressed) and see the shadows of my mother's positive attitude. I suspect that my depression comes from my father's side of the family. There are other parts of my attitude and my looks that I suspect come from my grandparents on both sides of the genetic line.

I am a combination
of the Deoxyribonucleic acid molecules
contributed to my genetic code
by my direct ancestors.
