Miracles in Everyday Life

Do I believe in miracles? Yes! The problem many people have is their definition of miracles. In the Oxford dictionary one of the definitions of miracle is "An extraordinary and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore attributed to a divine agency" or "A remarkable event or development that brings very welcome consequences".1 The problem with these definitions is that they prevent people from recognizing that life itself is a miracle. Since life is a miracle then miracles happen every day in everyone's life, but because of the definitions we use we can't see them and, when we can't see them, we don't recognize them for what they are.

O thou kind Lord
please open my heart
and mind to see the miracles
that are occurring in my life today.

Prayer for a Kind Heart

O Lord,
give me a kind heart
so that I may see your reflection
in my fellow human beings.

so that I may search for truth
independently.

give me a fierce spirit
so that I may stand firm
in thy covenant
against all opposition
and oppression.
