Bodycams
Sorry.. no internet for days! May 22nd prompt: The Sunday News! Should police officers be required to wear bodycams at all times, and how much access to this footage should the public be allowed?
This is such a subjective topic. Police officers already wear/tote a great deal of gear. Cameras only film and offer a limited viewpoint/angle. They would only 'see' a limited range. They could and will malfunction. They could become a target for criminals.
I don't believe the public needs to see any of the footage unless it pertains to a trial and it is used as a visual tool/evidence. Even then it should only be used in a courthouse. Any films can be altered, limited, enhanced. We need to understand the context and timing of footage. When it is shown as a news item, it can be inflammatory . We do not always see the full, entire picture, and often it is only one viewpoint or angle. Crimes do not play out neatly in one static spot. People tend to react without knowing or understanding the context or the full picture.
