Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs
PROMPT: Though the book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is fiction... giant portions of food begin raining down from the sky! How do you spend your first week in this new world where hunger is a memory and umbrellas are a necessity?
Day 1: I would abandon my tattered umbrella, my cookbooks, my pots and pans, my dishes, and my cutlery. In this unbelievable land of plenty, I no longer have to plan, prepare, or serve any food. Anything and everything is available, and eating with my hands is more than acceptable. I must admit, I'd gorge myself with this all-you-can-stuff-in-your-face place. If the food is plentiful and appears like magic, calories must also not exist; non-stop bingeing without ballooning and bulging. There would be no taboos and rules. Dessert could be enjoyed before veggies, or instead of veggies. DAY 2: Today, I would develop my relationship with food. All my senses could experience the tastes, textures, colours, and scents surrounding me. From warm, creamy mashed potatoes, I'd create a snowman/ potato person named Spud. After rolling and assembling, I'd lick my fingers. The arms could be pretzels or bread sticks or Tootsie Rolls. Eyes might be olives or brussel sprouts. I'd toboggan, slip and slide down a frosty mountain of ice cream. Bouncing on sponge cake sounds like fun. I'd swing through towering toffee trees from vines woven from spaghetti. In a pool of steaming custard, I'd float.
Day 3: I'd challenge my taste buds to discover a new food combination like peanut butter and chocolate, or salt and caramel. Cocoanut curry chicken already creates a delicious combination. Hmmm, maybe banana basil beef or pineapple paprika pork?? DAY 4: Today, I'd busy myself building my own life-size gingerbread house. Oh, it would smell scrumptious! Nothing tops the aroma of fresh-baked molasses, ginger, and cinnamon. As I construct, I'd nibble. Every day, I could if I fancied, re-decorate. There'd be no shortage of candies in all colours for my new abode. It would not be a cookie cutter style. DAY 5: This would be pasta day. What better way to celebrate being 'pasta the mid-week point" than spaghetti with meatballs, lasagna, ravioli, linguine, and more. DAY 6: I'd send invitations to this paradise via cookie couriers and muffin messengers; Appetites Welcome. Day 7: My guests and I would stage our own food Olympics; playing with food, not food-fighting. There would be the Cinnamon Roll Roll, Pizza Discus, The Cake Walk, Burger Bowling, Rutabaga Rugby, Squash Soccer, Dairy Diving.....and so much more. The trophies would be sculpted from chocolate.
