Ghosting
Prompt: Why do people ghost? Can ghosting have a good reason? How does it feel to be ghosted?
Ghosting is when someone that you believe cares about you disappears on you without any form of explanation, message, phone call or email.

============

Well, I can’t really blame anyone for ghosting when I have ended up ‘somewhat’ ghosting people myself, only because my personal life made it inevitable. It happened because I went away suddenly for a time, and when I came back, I couldn’t get in touch with people or lost their addresses and phone numbers, or because later on, weird things happened again like computers breaking down (during the non-cloud era) with all my info and addresses in them. It also happened when we changed states. Sometimes with some people, I didn’t see the necessity of staying in touch as well. Chances are, they didn’t feel the need either because if anyone would be determined to find me, I could be found through family and friends or even old neighborhoods.

Once I stopped being in touch with someone I used to work with and got along well because he had assumed that I did something to double cross him. His assumption hurt my feelings and I stayed away, but then, he didn’t get in touch with me either. In this case, I hadn’t ghosted totally but just didn’t call him and avoided him. Then we started getting in touch again, after he found out the truth and called me with an apology and I told him his assumption had hurt my feelings. We’re still in touch now, but not as often or friendly as before.

Ghosting can have a good reason if one is working for a secret government agency or when he or she is under witness protection plan or something like that. Otherwise, the individual who is ghosting probably wants to be left alone. Becoming ghosted by someone a person cares about must be very confusing because one may worry about his or her welfare.
