ROBOTS....REALLY?
Hmmm, robots? I've never actually met a robot. I'll admit I've viewed a few movies in which robots played major roles; both heroic and sinister. Many of the universal themes present them as help-mates or drones. Robots do what we don't want to do. They are the scullery maids, the cannon fodder, the garbage men, and the assembly line workers. Someone/something has to take care of the dirty work.
To my knowledge, only human hands trained as surgeons ever operated on me. The prospect of a cold dispassionate machine wielding a scalpel seems surreal, science fictiony. Human contact equals empathy; an " if not for the grace of God" understanding.
I'm not so sure I'd relinquish anything to a robot. Scrubbing greasy dishes isn't so bad. It's a trade-off, a counter-part to creating, cooking, and, ultimately, enjoying food. Many everyday chores are part of living. Menial tasks give us perspective; the good accompanies the bad. We learn to cope, prioritize ,rationalise, substitute, and be responsible. Drudgery builds character. Even our own messes may be solved.
Life is not always neat and tidy. I cannot fathom foisting my "problems", my inconveniences, my dread onto a robot. Nothing will ever replace good old human ingenuity or human touch. Blood, sweat, and tears NOT circuitry and lubricants/oil.
