Creation Saturday: I remember when we went to Disneyland

The January 19, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS"  is
Write a poem utilizing the phrase, "I remember when..."
(If I can write a poem, so can you, but for those less daring, feel free to write a piece of prose instead.)

I remember when we went to Disneyland,
just Mom and I together on a holiday for two;
we departed Las Vegas just before sunset
and arrived in Anaheim about dawn.

I remember when we went to Disneyland;
we took Mom's Cadillac
and drove all night though the desert
to avoid the heat of the day,
we stopped for gas in Barstow,
ate breakfast at a greasy spoon truck stop,
and overheard the hooker in the next booth talk.

I remember when we went to Disneyland,
I discovered Mom's favorite ride to the tune
of "It's a small world after all".
