Responses to facebook on shooting.
Some of my facebook comments. Out of context may not make sense, but here they are:

Focus on a cause and solution?

Laurie: Estrangement comes to mind. How folks are so disconnected from each other is part of it. Mental issues another. The woven threads of our society are frayed. How to mend is the question. A patch will not do. I will give this more thought. Until then ...thank-you.

In response to Terri's suggestion that we would make this a priority if it were (truck accidents on bridges, bombs in ports, a plague):

Susan: I wish I could agree; I really do. I don't because: 1. our bridges are deteriorating and a period of unemployment would've been a good time to throw money into taking care of two problems: jobs and infrastructure. Did we? Or did it "cost too much". I believe there was some effort. 2. The nation's security response after 9/11 was to terrorize our own people; turning the nation into a police state doesn't stop terrorists. It made many feel more afraid not safe. 3. AIDS. Reagan's response was pitiful. The drug industry's response questionable. As long as it raged through a despised community it was "containable"... and "good riddance". Bitter? Do I sound bitter, jaundiced, cynical? Yeah ...and then some. I think Terri is mostly right though. Just wish I could be more positive that we have the brass balls to tackle the issue. I don't think we do. A can-do attitude not based on greed, fear or prejudice would help.

In response to anxiety, tears, panic:

Lisa: Yes, as Phil Shore said: The Corner of Ignorance and Bliss. Being in another country helps for me. It's not the topic of discussion. Not reading yahoo or facebook would help me more. I haven't watched the news. That is a blessing. To not get traumatized ...step away. Most of us cannot not take the onslaught of constant emotion. Would a get-away walk with the kids help? Any diversion for now. Do NOT turn on the TV!
