One Day Sitting At That Table
so, why jim and pamela
once again at the
altar with the
elixir in hand?
and why wouldn't it be so;
after all, so the
old story goes,
about jack and jill and the long climb;
I think there was a band that was with,
and then one without.
somehow, no one
knew how the one without would do.

my friend tells me,
that long ago
at the end of the
belief in time
itself,
there was band loyalty;
but,
once upon a time
there was life without a band;
should that be again, now?

why jim and pam
again,
after all these years,
knocking and
calling their friends.
telling them, we're back.
get the new one.
read this.
take that.

one day standing by that table
in the pizza parlor;
the jukebox selection
for a quarter:
"riders on the storm,"
and a few months later,
a year,
kids talking before school--
did you hear that--?
eveyone thinking about it.
all the grown ups.
