Thunder rolls over Georgetown Lake,
fit counterpoint to pianos dueling.

Mozart and Schubert, Britten and Copeland:
rondos, then crashing crescendos.

Outside, cold rain wets the lady's mantle,
dims my view of the young page turner,

thin and blond like I once was,
heart's ache.

He sits and stands; he moves to the score:
alla marcia, presto, andatino,

what was real to Rachmaninoff
when he sang of Russian romance.

Volti! Quick turn the page.
And do not dare make mistakes!

Mist rises from the mountains,
then settles over Georgetown Lake.

Above, blue hare-bells weep
as claps signal music's final sweep,

as my eyes mist from a youthful vision,
heart's ache.

Myrt and I traveled yesterday. We went to Ohrmann's Gallery south of Drummond, to the Art Show in Philipsburg, to St. Timothy's to hear Blegen and Hesla do four hands on two pianos: Mozart, Schubert, Britten, Rachmaninoff, Copeland. The above poem comes from that experience. I told Steve, the page-turner, that I wove him into a poem... I'll share it with him once I'm sure I've got it right. This poetic sketch was written 5 years after the last entry's offering... to the day.

Bill Ohrmann's wonderful but disturbing "Why is it the night comes on so swiftly" one of my favorite works for the emotions it evokes.



ME?

I feel a need to connect. In some ways almost all humans do... 1. to connect to oneself, 2. to connect to the world around them, 3. to connect to each other. Most will add 4. to connect to the Creator of it all.

I feel good when Lavinia comes and sits with me at Bernice's and manages to win at solitaire on her third try. I share in the joy.

I feel good when I talk to my mother and she tells me she told my cousin yesterday that it's okay to fall apart at a funeral/celebration of life. I'm thrilled she went with my sister and niece.

I feel good when I am connected or can help others connect.

Blogville

I read Tor's entry about the Blogville News and can only say that I think we need a site-wide weekly newsletter written by avid writers and bleaders of blogs... It's about time (well... two years ago was about time ).

I ranted about health-care and the Us versus Them mentality my other blog, O Pinions! in entry: "Snake in the Grassley" 

And why, IMHO (from personal experience), people may be angry in entry: "Reassurance: a cure to fear, hope for peace" 

To be clear: I am an ardent supporter of universal health care with an emphasis on no exceptions. But... I do understand where some of the anger comes from. I also believe in marriage as a basic human right above-and-beyond any particular brand-religion's narrow cultural-historical definition.
