Old Acquaintance
I ran into someone today whom I have not seen in almost 20 years. He caught my eye while I was speaking to someone else, so it took a moment to speak to each other. He froze trying to think of who I was before I could get to him.

He came with his hand extended slowly, still thinking. I said, "Harry's daughter."

"I know you're Harry's daughter.. ." We exchanged a few words. He reminded me that he lives around the corner from my dad (a little farther, actually) and that I should call him if I need anything. I won't need anything, so he was safe saying that. Still it felt good to make a little connection with my childhood and youth, and to converse with friendly people.

I relayed the story to my father. I could tell by the look on his face, it made  him feel good, too. Old friends stay that way--friends, no matter how much time passes. Reconnecting feels good.
