Enga mellom fjella: where from across the meadow, poems sing from mountains and molehills.

East of Eden
East of Eden

East of Eden,
least of all the magpie's
lesser flight,
we flee across this Clark Fork River;
ospreys light
upon the waters
flowing
glowing
by the yawn of clouds or sunbright;
cold dawn
reflecting smoke or flames of fire
burning
yearning
to set this garden-grassland free
of those who churn it.
East of Eden,
we will feast
on hopes of what will someday be.

I wrote this while watching a movie last night, wove it with personal thoughts and the landscape surrounding me. It flowed from the thought: East of Eden/ least of all the magpie's lesser flight. Ospreys and magpies are two of the common birds around here. Not many birds at all.

blah blah blah:

"Dawn crawls over a snow covered mountain just about says it all.

Watched the film Big Eden set in "small-town" NW Montana last night. It was worth it. Still movies can unnerve me. There was a line (which I'll mangle for you): "We can't find you if you keep running away." Ouch.

I once had 44 flower heads of geraniums in bloom, but winter has taken its toll. None now, but 13 weak flower heads that might bloom as the days grow longer. You-who-live-up-north ... have you noticed? In another month I can start to water more often.
