Connor's snake
Connor's snake

The grip of finger, the s curve slide,
a scaly caress of skin.
Connor proudly holds the prize
he found along the riverside:
a garter snake that emits its musk,
annoyed at best.
A tongue flicks out
as muscles flex,
eager to wend its way back home
among rock crevices.
And then the children come to play,
to hold young Connor's prey,
careful not to squeeze too hard.
At the last release
we gasp relief;
we and the snake go home.

For Connor, age 6, who showed us all the snake he caught at Caras Park, Missoula, MT

ME:

I am conflicted. If Eric calls tomorrow, I may be going on a road trip for a Men's Health conference ... hmmm.

I'm staying where I've been for the last month. So that is settled.

Had a smoked salmon and blueberry crepe (but I thought the salmon dry). I washed it down with a cardamom shake.

Inspiration for poetry! Aaron made a comment that was too good to pass up and ended up with a poem before my shake was properly slurped. If I stay in town tomorrow I'll share it with him. If only to see him blush. *Smirk*
