I died.
Nay,
I lived.
Long enough to leave my bones
where you would find them,
see the beauty that once moved
strong muscled hide.

I lied.
Nay,
I told the truth
reflected now in hollowed eyes;
each hallowed nostril
blowing in and out:
this cold dry air,
this hot dry air.

I erred.
Nay,
I survived!
Longer than a cloudburst,
shorter than a cholla's reach
across this harsh stone plain,
tucked between the mountain's reign.

You deigned.
Nay,
You dared
to pick up bones and paint my story:
white strokes across a blank blue sky
as blue as blue is blue.
