Enga mellom fjella: where from across the meadow, poems sing from mountains and molehills.

Matilda

         thinking of Heath Ledger's daughter

She gathers the waters of the East
River, sprinkles them over the sands
north of Perth. She waltzes beneath
the warm Southern Cross, polkas out west
by the Big Dipper's light. The night is hers.

She knows her father from photos,
ice cream dripping from her face; he fades
in the daystorm of no sleep. She seeks
his dreams and waltzes the firmament,
two-steps between brokeback mountains,
and the medieval jousts of yore.

She hears his voice echo from flickering screens.
She dances by the twilight of flickering screens.

This is the best I could do at short notice. Heath Ledger's daughter will always be able to watch him, but that is never the same. Most people have photos of lost family, many only memories, some not even that. Matilda will have his image and voice. But it is never enough.

IMAGES:

Yammer of the hammer of machinery next door.

A squawk of a blue jay flutters from bush to the ground, the sparrows from ground to bush.

Backfire sounding like gunshot (a worried face at a business' door).

So I wrote this:

Momma in her s.u.v.

Kids sit shotgun,
exhaust backfires.
On the asphalt covered bricks,
she revs her engines,
hits the gas.
Do not dare to cross her path.
She aims to kill.

ME:

Indy was closed. *Frown* So I'm at Aimee's where someone said, "My sister's boobs squeak."

Ah ... what people say in my presence! *Laugh*

I'm okay. Having a coffee and going to a poetry reading this evening at the library. Went to one last night. I didn't read before the mic, but late when we were seated in a circle, I read "Cursive". Got a signed copy of Beautiful Trouble by Amy Fleury. She hails from Seneca where I worked many many moons ago. We had a nice talk about the non-human and human landscape.

Singer and performer Celia is coming to town April 10th! She'll be in Ojai, California on February 12th ... hmmm ... Kansas or California. *Rolleyes* Still wish I could've caught her when she was in Missoula last year. *Smile* I believe she is in Colorado presently. She'll also be in Santa Fe, Sedona and later in Wisconsin and Indiana.

Finally being voted on! One has 20 votes, the other 13. Any guess which pet is winning? It ain't the poor poodle or siamese. *Frown*
