Enga mellom fjella: where from across the meadow, poems sing from mountains and molehills.

Tzedakah, a poem.
Tzedakah

Each poem counts a copper
towards the debt I owe.
Each day this leaden weight
is turned towards gold,
lightening my load,
but burgeoning the cost.
Patience strung around my neck,
becomes my silver albatross.
Each year a thousand verses quilled.
Each feathered line now blown about.
Each word of grief and joy I pen,
balancing the gains, the loss.

Note that tzedakah is a hebrew word. It loosely means charity, but is a religious obligation. My poems do not strictly fall into that category, but I do write many poems as gifts and as a way of forgiving or asking forgiveness.

ME:

It is too beautiful a day to be inside (where I am), too peaceful to stay at home. So I may go downtown again like last night and hope and pray that life-at-home is not the same when I get back. I'm avoiding situations and people I have little or no control over ...

Should stop by the library again and get more books. It's a long 4 day weekend.

Malcolm cut my hair last night. Offered to trim the beard. I look better with a beard, but my skin is giving me grief again and it is easier to clear it up with the beard gone. *Frown*

I had some wicked chocolate pecan pie. Ate my roast beef with smashed taters and gravy and even ate every green bean! Zowie!
