Black swans
Black swans

Ebony wings glided over the pond
in Parque Morazán
where green-shaded days,
starlit by 6, kept the secrets of hidden ways
known only by night
and those who cherished anonymity.
Graceful craned necks with silent beaks,
became black boats that floated
through tropical waves of many
a desparate dream.
There I sat on a bench
and dared not speak my name,
lest I too be branded a sinner.
Yet you swans swam on
oblivious to my needs.
Still I mourned your demise
when the refugees fled here in hunger.
Were your plumed breasts and black wings
breakfast, lunch or dinner?

Back in the 80s or 90s, the displacement of people from Nicaragua to Costa Rica led to someone(s) killing the black swans for food. Parque Morazán is in downtown San José. Costa Rica.

I Morazánparken i centrala San José kan man bland annat se den stora monsteran och de enorma bambuträden:

A wonderful photo essay of Costa Rica:

ME: Don't ask. If you really want to know ... you know where to go ...

I did manage to eat my cereal yesterday. May even remember to do that again today. New habits take time to establish. Now ... fruits and vegetables ... ?

WEATHER: We are cloaked in grey. Days like this make me want to visit Oklahoma ... permanently.

WRITING: I figure that sketches 388-403 were done in Montana. There will be more written from that experience, of course. I wrote my journal and did my blog and there is poetry in both waiting to be born when reread.

Kansas: 25º and still grey.
