Day One
Threw out all the lighters, ashtrays and remaining cigarettes before going to bed last night, and had Cliff apply a nicotine patch to a hard-to-reach spot on my back. I had two packs left in the carton and two cigs left in an open pack. Soaked all of them in water before throwing them out. Maybe that last step wasn't so necessary, since the trucks come to pick up the trash on Mondays and the cigarettes would have been long gone before I got desperate enough to dig in the trash for them, but I didn't want to take any chances.

And speaking of taking chances, or more correctly, of not taking chances, I've been staying at home all day today, figuring there's no chance I'll buy cigarettes if I don't go anywhere they're available for purchase. But I need to go to the grocery store soon. Maybe I'll drag my daughter along. She'll be glad to make sure I don't buy any cigarettes.

I wish I could just go to sleep and wake up unaddicted.
