Pride

I looked up all the words for pride,
my thesaurus found precisely twelve,
four with negative connotations
and eight with positive undertone.

I’ve known people
who were arrogant, conceited, smug and self-important
and I’ve met people who exhibited
satisfaction, pleasure, delight, gratification, self-respect, dignity, self-esteem and honor;
indeed,
I myself have reflected
both positive and negative pride
at various times in my life.

****
What have I done in my life that surprised me? I’m always doing something that surprises me. However, I think this question refers to something similar to the examples given in the prompt. Whatever the question refers to here goes my example.

I have a tendency toward procrastination, so I sometimes put stuff off until the last possible minute. I haven’t been doing that in this contest. I’ve been getting the prompts done in a reasonable amount of time. Not that I haven’t put other stuff off, but that’s another story. Anyway when I achieve a write I get a feeling of accomplishment. Until now I hadn’t thought of that as pride, but it is a form of the positive aspects of pride.
