waiting waterless
Cliff discovered another leaky pipe late last night, so took off work to play plumber today. It's a good thing my first class isn't until 5:30 this evening. I hope all the epoxy will dry well enough and in enough time to allow a shower and trip to the bookstore before then. Also wanted to give a certain big, beautiful dog a bath, since we've got balmy weather today. He came to live with us for a little while yesterday, and so far he's been a very polite guest, just a little noisy when we leave him outside by himself. Alex, the cat my youngest daughter rescued from a dumpster as a tiny kitten two years ago, is slowly adjusting to the new situation. He hissed and hackled at first, now he just makes himself scarce whenever we let the dog come in the house. Good thing, cause I've always been more of a dog person than a cat person, and after the dog's had a good bath, he'll probably spend more time in the house. That will make the neighborhood one barking dog more quiet, and I'll have some company when everyone else goes off to their various pursuits. I'll probably be spending quite a bit of time at home during the day this semester, so that'll keep the house from feeling so lonely.

Funny thing, I've often talked in glowing terms about having the house and more room to myself after all the kids move out on their own, but I had a few samplings of that experience over the holiday. I learned I'm definitely going to need to find ways to cope with the silence and lack of vocal interaction. Of course, I'm sure (or I should say I hope) I'll have a teaching job by then, so won't be home until it's almost time for my husband to get home on most days. There will still be longer summer and winter breaks though, when I'll be home by myself. I imagine I'll read more, try to learn to play the piano better and probably try to globe trot as much as financially possible. Hah, maybe I'll even write more.

30 more minutes till water...
